A transparent planning estimate for direct routes between major airports.
Planning estimate only. The model uses great-circle distance, a nominal 500 mph cruise speed and 35 minutes for climb, descent and ground allowance. Winds, routing, aircraft, congestion and operational decisions can materially change actual block time. Not a timetable.
Methodology
Distance uses the haversine formula on published airport coordinates. Estimated duration is distance divided by a nominal cruise speed plus a fixed climb, descent and ground allowance. It does not predict a specific flight.
Important limitations
Air traffic control routing, winds, aircraft performance, runway configuration and congestion can change both distance and time. Always use the airline’s schedule for travel planning.
